Daphne Calvin est une photographe à temps partiel de Kuujjuaraapik. Elle a sa propre entreprise, appelée Crenuk Studio, sur Facebook. À un très jeune âge, Elle a son premier appareil photo Nikon, offert par ses parents qui l’ont beaucoup soutenue. Depuis, elle a appris toute seule, en manipulant son matériel, les différentes facettes de l’appareil photo, l’éclairage et les autres équipements qui l’accompagnent. Daphné a décidé de démarrer son entreprise en 2014 avec l’aide de son conjoint qui l’a soutenue et encouragé, ainsi que l’appui financier de KRG.
Malgré ses allers-retours à Montréal, elle a pu continuer à faire ce qu’elle aime. Ce qu’elle préfère c’est prendre des photos de mariage et travailler avec des enfants, “ils écoutent bien”, qu’elle dit. Elle photographie également des portraits, des familles et travaille en freelance. C’est elle qui pose les sujets et qui décide de l’emplacement de la photo : « J’aime faire les choses à ma façon et j’ai une vision de ce à quoi les choses devraient ressembler. » À l’avenir, elle aimerait faire plus de photos de mariage et avoir accès à un studio bien équipé.
Pour elle, prendre des photos est très important. “Les photos sont très importantes. Elles durent toute une vie. Ce sont des souvenirs. Pour moi, prendre des photos et les retoucher, c’est comme de l’art, j’ai été artiste toute ma vie. Et quand je leur donne vie, cela signifie quelque chose pour moi”. D’ailleurs, elle crée également des bijoux et des vêtements, son esprit créatif n’ayant pas de limite.

Daphne Calvin is a part time photographer from Kuujjuaraapik. She has her own business, called Crenuk Studio, on Facebook. She had her first Nikon camera at a young age, offered by her parents, they were very supportive of her. Since then, she taught herself, by hand, the different faucets of the camera, the lighting and other equipment that comes with it. Daphne decided to start her business in 2014. Her spouce supported her and kept her going and KRG funded her as well.
Despite the fact she moved back and forth to Montreal, she was able to continue what she loves. The pictures she likes to take are wedding photograph and to work with children, “They listen well” she says. Not only that, she also photographs portraits, families and freelances. She’s the one who poses the subjects and decide where it’s done, “I like to do things my way, and I have visions on how things should look like.” In the future, she would like to do more of weddings pictures, and have access to a well-equipped studio space.
For her, taking pictures is very important. “Photos are so important. They last a life time. They’re keepsakes and memories. For me taking the photos and editing them is like art, I’ve been artistic all my life. And when I bring them to life it means something to me.” By the way she also creates jewelry and clothing, no limitation to her creative spirit.
