ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᐱᐅᓯᑐᖃᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᐅᑎᕐᑎᓯᓚᕿᒍᒪᒋᐊᒥᒃ ᓂᕆᐅᒋᔭᖃᕈᒪᔪᖅ, ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᐱᐅᓯᑐᖃᖏᑦᑎᒍᑦ ᑐᓐᓃᑦ ᐅᑎᕐᑎᒍᓐᓇᓯᒍᒪᑦᓱᒋᑦ ᑭᖑᕚᖑᓂᐊᓕᕐᒥᔪᓄᑦ ᐱᐅᖕᖏᑑᓱᒋᔭᐅᓗᑎᒃ ᐊᑑᑎᔭᐅᑦᑌᓕᑎᑕᐅᒍᓐᓀᑎᓪᓗᒋᑦ ᐅᑉᐱᓂᓕᕆᔨᓄᑦ.
Arsaniq Deer est une jeune artiste originaire de Quaqtaq. En 2019, elle gradue du programme Nunavik Sivunitsavut pour ensuite poursuivre ses études au Collège LaSalle en maquillage artistique. C’est Hovak Johnston, une artiste reconnue qui a tatoué plusieurs femmes inuites à travers le Canada, qui a réalisé ses tatouages personnels et qui l’a ensuite initiée à la pratique du tatouage traditionnel Inuit, les tunniit. Arsaniq est la première personne au Nunavik à faire revivre cette tradition depuis qu’elle fut bannie.
Elle fait également du dessin et de l’aquarelle : « Je puise toujours mon inspiration de ma famille. J’observe une photo et j’essaie de la dessiner, sans nécessairement le faire de façon réaliste mais plutôt fictionnelle, et inspirée de ma culture ». Arsaniq reste fidèle à elle-même, il est important pour elle d’avoir sa propre voix et de se distinguer des autres.
Très fière d’être Inuk, elle trouve important de s’entraider entre artistes. Elle se décrit comme une fanatique de magasinage lorsqu’il s’agit d’artistes inuits ou autochtones qui ont leurs petites entreprises. « Il est important que notre art soit reconnu pour sensibiliser, avec respect et admiration. Je suis au courant de l’appropriation culturelle, ainsi je vais tatouer tout le monde mais les tatouages traditionnels sont réservés aux Inuits ».
Son souhait est de revitaliser la culture et transmettre cette belle tradition du tunniit aux prochaines générations sans que cela soit tabou.

She also does drawing and watercolor: “I always get my inspirations from my family. I look at a photograph and I try to draw it, not necessary realistically but more fictional and inspired by my culture”. Arsaniq remains true to herself in her creations, it is important for her to have her own voice and distinguish from others.
She is very proud to be Inuk and thinks it is important that artists support each other’s. She claims that she is a shopaholic for every Inuit or Indigenous designers who has their own business. “It is important that our art is recognized to bring awareness, with respect and admiration. I’m aware of cultural appropriation so I will tattoo anyone but the tunniit will only be for Inuit”.
Her hope is to revitalize the culture, pass on the beautiful tunniit tradition to the next generations without being taboo anymore.
