La couturi\u00e8re, Ida Saviarjuk vient de Salluit. Elle fait des amautiit (manteaux traditionnels pour les m\u00e8res) depuis 19 ans maintenant. Le tout premier qu\u2019elle a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 \u00e9tait pour sa petite-fille, Ataamina. Sa professeure \u00e9tait Annie Nuluijuk et elle a suivi ses pas en enseignant \u00e0 travers le Nunavik et \u00e0 ses enfants comment faire un amautik ou des kamiik (bottes).
Elle fait ses propres patrons et ne fait pas de commandes sur mesure, mais elle partage ses patrons pour celles qui veulent les utiliser. Ses amies et les membres de sa famille vont la voir quand ils ne peuvent plus avancer leurs projets. \u00c7a lui prend deux jours pour faire un manteau pour adulte, et une journ\u00e9e pour faire un manteau pour enfant. Elle fait aussi des kamiik, pualuuk (mitaines) et nassait (tuques).
Ida voulait faire des v\u00eatements traditionnels parce qu\u2019elle les a toujours trouv\u00e9s magnifiques. Elle fait des nouveaux patrons chaque ann\u00e9e pour suivre la mode. Elle a toujours aim\u00e9 utiliser ses mains, comme sa m\u00e8re, Imalla Tajarak, qui faisait des kamiit. Elle utilise la machine pour coudre, mais cout la fourrure \u00e0 la main.
La couturi\u00e8re est all\u00e9e \u00e0 deux reprise au Northern Lights Trade Show d\u2019Ottawa en f\u00e9vrier (aujourd\u2019hui appel\u00e9 Aqsarniit Trade Show). Son prochain projet est d\u2019utiliser la peau de phoque pour faire une paire kamiik. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seamstress, Ida Saviarjuk is from Salluit. She has been doing amautiit (mothers\u2019 traditional coats) for 19 years now. Her first ever made was for her granddaughter Ataamina. Her teacher was Annie Nuluijuk and she followed her steps by teaching around Nunavik and to her children how to make amautik or kamiik (boots).
She makes her own patterns, and doesn\u2019t make custom delivery, but she shares her patterns with whom may want to use them. Her friends and family members go to her when they can\u2019t move forward with their projects. It takes her two days to make an adult coat, and a day for children\u2019s coat. She also does kamiik, pualuuk (mits) and nassait (hats).
Ida wanted to make traditional clothing because she always found them beautiful. She makes new patterns each year to follow the fashion. She always loved using her hands, like her mother, Imalla Tajarak, who used to make kamiit. She uses the machine to make her coats, but her hands sew the fur on them.
The seamstress has been twice to the Northern Light Trade Show in Ottawa (now Arqarniit Trade Show), both in the month of February. Her next project is to use seal skin and make a pair of kamiik. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
