Lucy a fait son premier spectacle au festival Arpik Jam. Elle \u00e9tait nerveuse mais a \u00e9prouv\u00e9 beaucoup de plaisir. Elle a surpris sa famille et ses amis; ils ne savaient pas qu\u2019elle jouait de cet instrument. Seule dans sa chambre, elle pratiquait en \u00e9coutant les chansons de son p\u00e8re.
\u00c0 18 ans, l\u2019accord\u00e9oniste prend part \u00e0 son premier groupe, Kuujjuaq band, qui \u00e9tait aussi le groupe de son p\u00e8re. \u00ab \u00c7a s\u2019est pass\u00e9 tout seul \u00e0 une des f\u00eates de No\u00ebl, j\u2019\u00e9tais avec mes amies, mon nom a \u00e9t\u00e9 appel\u00e9 pour aller sur la sc\u00e8ne. \u00bb Sans savoir qu\u2019elle jouait, le groupe \u00e9tait surpris la regardant aller, tout le monde a pleur\u00e9 quand elle a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 jouer la musique de Tommy.
Maintenant, des personnes provenant de partout dans le monde comme Seattle, le Groenland ou l\u2019Alaska, l\u2019invitent \u00e0 aller jouer pour eux. Par contre, elle pr\u00e9f\u00e8re rester pr\u00e8s de chez elle, comme \u00e0 Kangirsuk, Quaqtaq, Kangiqsualujjuaq, Puvirnituq, Kuujjuaraapik et au Nunavut. On lui a demand\u00e9 d\u2019enseigner aussi, mais elle est chef \u00e0 temps plein au centre de r\u00e9tablissement Isuarsivik, elle est tr\u00e8s occup\u00e9e.
Quand elle joue pour la communaut\u00e9, il y a toujours des gens qui giguent, \u00ab l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re est joyeuse, \u00e9motionnelle, c\u2019est tout \u00e0 la fois! \u00bb dit-elle. Elle aime jouer au festival Arpik Jam et aux f\u00eates de No\u00ebl, \u00eatre sur sc\u00e8ne et rendre les gens heureux. Elle se rappelle la derni\u00e8re performance qu\u2019elle a fait avec son p\u00e8re, elle \u00e9tait habill\u00e9e dans des v\u00eatements traditionnels avec des tresses, elle avait dans\u00e9 pour lui. Son p\u00e8re amenait sa petite fille partout, sur sc\u00e8ne aussi. Il avait m\u00eame une chanson d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 elle, c\u2019\u00e9tait une fa\u00e7on de montrer son amour pour elle. Maintenant elle enseigne l\u2019accord\u00e9on \u00e0 son plus jeune fils, il a moins de patience \u00e0 apprendre, mais adore y jouer.
Lucy a tout r\u00e9cemment fait un tournage pour Una Taga<\/em>, de TNI, une s\u00e9rie de 13 \u00e9pisodes qui va sortir en APTN 2025, mettant en valeur deux artistes inuuk par \u00e9pisode. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lucy did her first show at Arpik Jam. She was very nervous but had a lot of fun. She surprised her family and friends; they didn\u2019t know she played the instrument. Alone in her room, she practiced by listening to her father\u2019s music.
At 18 years old, she had her first band, Kuujjuaq band, which was also her father\u2019s band. \u201cIt just happened at a Christmas party, I was with my friends. My name was called to go on stage.\u201d Without knowing she played, the band was surprised as they watched her, she made everybody cry when she started Tommy\u2019s songs. Now, people from all around the world such as Seattle, Greenland and Alaska, are asking her to play for them although she prefers to stay close to home, like Kangirsuk, Quaqtaq, Kangiqsualujjuaq, Puvirnituq, Kuujjuaraapik and in Nunavut. She\u2019s been asked to teach as well, but as a full-time chef at Isuarsivik recovery center, she is very busy.
When she plays for the community, there\u2019s always people foot dancing around, the atmosphere is \u201cjoyful, emotional, it\u2019s everything\u201d in her own words. She loves playing at Arpik Jam and Christmas parties, being on stage and make people happy. She remembers the last performance with her father, she was dressed in traditional clothing and braids, she danced for him. Her father brought the young girl everywhere, onstage as well. He even had a song for daughter, it was a way to show his love for her. Now she teaches accordion to her youngest son, he has less patience to learn but loves playing it.
