Kuujjuaq, bien qu\u2019elle ait grandi \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al. Elle est la fille de Taqralik Partridge et la belle-fille de Nilsailu Upsi, un S\u00e1mi de Norv\u00e8ge. Elle cr\u00e9e des dessins et des estampes de mani\u00e8re plus professionnelle depuis l\u2019\u00e2ge de 24 ans. Ces deux parents l\u2019ont beaucoup encourag\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper sa cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9. Sa m\u00e8re \u00e9tant elle-m\u00eame une artiste, et Nilsailu un animateur, ils ont pu la supporter et lui donner des conseils. Elle explique : \u00ab Chacun de nous partageons notre histoire avec le monde. \u00bb \n<br>La jeune artiste a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper son int\u00e9r\u00eat pour le dessin avec les dessins anim\u00e9s de son enfance et les mangas qu\u2019elle lisait. Son r\u00eave \u00e9tait de devenir mangaka, une autrice de manga. Elle apportait un cahier de dessins partout o\u00f9 elle allait. Les autres enfants ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 lui demander qu\u2019elle leur fasse des gribouillis. Mais elle a arr\u00eat\u00e9 le dessin pendant environ 7-8 ans au secondaire, \u00e0 une p\u00e9riode o\u00f9 elle \u00e9tait plus fragile \u00e9motionnellement. \n<br>Akinasi a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 \u00e0 John Abbott pendant un trimestre pour ensuite aller \u00e0 Dawson, au programme d\u2019arts visuels. Son passage au c\u00e9gep n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 facile pour sa confiance en tant que femme autochtone; elle \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s g\u00ean\u00e9e. N\u00e9anmoins, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 24 ans, elle a recommenc\u00e9 \u00e0 dessiner et \u00e0 publier ses dessins en ligne. Les r\u00e9actions \u00e9taient si positives qu\u2019elle s\u2019est sentie encourag\u00e9e \u00e0 se constituer un portfolio. Maintenant, elle embrasse sa culture et a davantage confiance en elle, ce qui lui permet de rejoindre un public plus large. Elle dit: \u00ab Ma culture enrichie mes \u0153uvres, c\u2019est une histoire \u00e0 raconter. C\u2019est devenu important pour moi et j\u2019ai maintenant une image bien plus claire de ce que je veux. \u00bb Elle a d\u00e9finitivement d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 son propre style qui rend son travail unique.\n<br>Elle utilise des crayons de bois, stylos et du mat\u00e9riel d\u2019estampes, car ils sont plus accessibles et facile \u00e0 transporter n\u2019importe o\u00f9. Il y a quelque chose qu\u2019elle adore dans la mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9 et les textures des dessins \u00e0 la main. Les sujets de ces dessins sont surtout des autoportraits et des repr\u00e9sentations de sa vie quotidienne. Ses estampes, quant \u00e0 elles, sont plus imaginatives, plus fictives avec des personnages tels que des esprits et des Dieux. \n<br>R\u00e9aliser des estampes est une comp\u00e9tence qu\u2019elle a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e plus r\u00e9cemment. En janvier 2023, elle a obtenu la bourse Iniqarvik, de Inuit Art Foundation. Au cours de l\u2019automne de la m\u00eame ann\u00e9e, elle a eu l\u2019opportunit\u00e9 d\u2019apprendre la linogravure, dans un cours en ligne offert par N\u2019we Jinan Creative Studios qui fournissait les mat\u00e9riaux, l\u2019aidait \u00e0 s\u2019am\u00e9liorer et lui permettait d\u2019apprendre des a\u00een\u00e9s. En juin dernier, gr\u00e2ce au soutien financier d\u2019une bourse Takuminartuliurnimut d\u2019Avataq, elle a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 une r\u00e9sidence de cr\u00e9ation au Japon o\u00f9 elle a appris la gravure sur bois. Malgr\u00e9 la pression et l\u2019augmentation des attentes envers elle qu\u2019elle ressentait, elle est tr\u00e8s fi\u00e8re de ce qu\u2019elle a pu accomplir. Son prochain but est d\u2019\u00e9crire son propre manga inspir\u00e9 de sa vie.\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background\">Akinasi Partridge is originally from Kuujjuaq, although she grew up in Montreal. She is the daughter of Taqralik Partridge and stepdaughter of Nilsailu Upsi, a S\u00e1mi from Norway. She does drawings and print making more professionally since the age of 24. Both her parents encouraged to develop her creativity. Her mother being an artist herself and Nilsailu, a 2D animator, they were able to support and give her advice. She explains: \u201cAll of us share our story with the world.\u201d\n<br>\nThe young artist started to develop her interest in drawing because of the cartoons she watched growing up, and the mangas she read. Her dream was to become a mangaka, a manga author. She started to bring a sketchbook wherever she went. The other kids started asking her to make them little scribbles. But she stopped drawing for 7 to 8 years, while in high school, at a time when she was more emotionally fragile. \n<br>After that, Akinasi went to John Abbott College for a semester and then moved to Dawson College, in visual arts program, where she graduated. College was not easy on her confidence as an Indigenous woman; she was very self-conscious. Nevertheless, she started to draw again at the age of 24, and posted her drawings online. She received good responses, which encouraged her to fill in her portfolio. Now, she embraces her culture and she\u2019s growing her confidence, which bring her to wider audience. She says: \u201cMy culture enriches my work; it is a story to tell. It became important to me, and I have now a much clearer image of what I want.\u201d She definitely developed her own style which makes her work unique.\n<br>She uses pencils, pens, and print making materials for her artwork, since it\u2019s easy access, and can be brought anywhere. There\u2019s also something she likes in hand drawn pictures about the quality and textures it can bring out. What we find most in her pencil drawings is self-portraits and representations of her daily life. On the other hand, her print makings are more imaginative which includes spirits and gods. \n<br>Print making is a skill that she developed more recently. In January 2023, she obtained the Inuit Art Foundation Iniqarvik Grant. In the same year, in fall, she got an opportunity to learn linocut on an online course offered by N\u2019we Jinan Creative Studios, which funded her materials, helped improved her skills and facilitated learning from elders. Last June, with the support of an Avataq Takuminartuliurnimut Grant, she did a residency stay of two weeks in Japan to learn about wooden block art. It brought her more pressure and expectations about herself, but she is very proud of what she accomplished. La couleur bleue est souvent associ\u00e9e avec la tristesse, et dans ce cas c\u2019est une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 des \u00e9pisodes de d\u00e9pression. Le rouge \u00e9voque l\u2019\u00e9motion forte de l\u2019hypomanie. Pourtant souvent assum\u00e9 que l\u2019on exp\u00e9rience un \u00e9tat \u00e0 la fois, un m\u00e9lange d\u2019\u00e9pisodes peut arriver entre deux cycles.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Pencil crayon, water-based marker and archival ink fine liner, 11.5 x 16.5 inches.&nbsp;<br>The title of this \u201cQitingani \u2013 In The Middle Of\u201d, represents the mental health challenges that come with untreated Bipolar type 2. The colour blue is often associated with sadness and in this case is a reference to the depressive episodes, while the red evokes the strong emotions of hypomania.
