Elle n\u2019a jamais eu de point de d\u00e9part pour commencer \u00e0 faire de l\u2019art \u00ab Cela a toujours fait partie de moi \u00bb dit-elle. Quand elle \u00e9tait plus jeune, elle fouillait dans les sacs \u00e0 poubelle pour trouver de la craie et les utilisait plus tard. <br>\nElle avait le support de ses parents, Joanna Berthe Koneak et Aqiggik George Koneak, qui encourageaient sa cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9. Sa m\u00e8re la laissait dessiner des motifs, des fleurs, des animaux et des gens pour les broder par la suite. Jessie recevait des crayons et des stylos comme cadeau de No\u00ebl et d\u2019anniversaire. Elle dit : \u00ab Ce sont les meilleurs cadeaux que je puisse recevoir \u00bb. Avant qu\u2019elle commence \u00e0 vendre, Jessie faisait des cadeaux pour la famille ou ses amis proches, puis des non-Inuit ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 aimer ses dessins et \u00e0 demander \u00e0 avoir de ses \u0153uvres. <br>\nC\u2019est une artiste autodidacte ; elle restait \u00e0 l\u2019affut des images dans les magazines et regardait les techniques des autres artistes. Dans les ann\u00e9es 90, Makivvik parrainait un programme d\u2019art partout au Nunavik. L\u2019artiste s\u2019est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e \u00e0 chacun d\u2019eux. Les artistes faisaient de la sculpture, de la peinture, de la pyrogravure, etc. Elle appr\u00e9ciait beaucoup cela. \u00c0 la fin de chaque atelier, les artistes vendaient leurs cr\u00e9ations, et son kiosque se vidait souvent.<br>\nLe m\u00e9dium artistique qu\u2019elle pr\u00e9f\u00e8re utiliser est la peinture acrylique, mais elle dessine et bricole entre autres. Son sujet pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9 est de dessiner des p\u00eacheurs, la cueillette de petits fruits et la nature. L\u2019artiste d\u00e9veloppe ses id\u00e9es en faisant ses t\u00e2ches ; \u00ab Des id\u00e9es me viennent \u00e0 des moments al\u00e9atoires \u00bb dit-elle. Elle confesse aussi qu\u2019elle travaille mieux sous pression, avoir une date limite l\u2019aide \u00e0 travailler plus fort. Dans ses derniers projets, elle s\u2019aventure sur le territoire et trouve des branches, les modifie comme elle le veut et les laisse s\u00e9cher durant la nuit. Elle les utilise ensuite pour faire des cadres. Elle changeait la forme du canvas pour qu&#8217;il ressemble \u00e0 une peau de phoque pour peindre dessus.  <br>\nJessie ne fait pas seulement de l\u2019art, elle a aussi \u00e9t\u00e9 enseignante pendant 32 ans. Elle enseignait l\u2019inuktitut et des cours d\u2019art. Parce qu\u2019il n\u2019y avait pas beaucoup de livres dans sa langue maternelle, elle faisait son propre mat\u00e9riel p\u00e9dagogique.  \u00ab C\u2019est tr\u00e8s relaxant de faire de l\u2019art. Je l\u2019encourage fortement dans les \u00e9coles, tu ne peux pas te tromper, tu l\u2019as en toi. On devrait toujours donner des crayons aux enfants. \u00bb Maintenant qu\u2019elle \u00e0 la retraite, elle dit : \u00ab Je peux faire ce que je veux quand je veux. \u00bb et l\u2019art reste son occupation de pr\u00e9dilection. \n <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background\">Born in Nuvuk (close to Quaqtaq), then moved to Old Chimo (Kuujjuaq today) Jessie Jones Koneak  is an artist and a retired teacher. She never really had a starting point to make art: \u201cIt\u2019s always been part of my life\u201d she says. When she was younger, she used to rummage through the garbage bags and find chalk to use them later on.<br> \nHer parents, Joanna Berthe Koneak and Aqiggik George Koneak were very supportive and they encouraged her creativity. Her mother used to let her draw patterns, flowers, people and animals and would embroid on them. Jessie would also have pencils and crayons for Christmas or her birthday. \u201cThey are the best gifts I could receive\u201d she says. Before she started selling, Jessie made gifts for family and close friends, then, non-Inuit would start liking her drawings and ask for some of her artwork. <br> \nThe artist is self-taught; she would look out for pictures in magazine and watch technics from other artists. In the 90\u2019s, Makivvik was sponsoring art program all over Nunavik. The artist attended almost all of them. They would do carvings, paintings, wood burning, etc. She enjoyed it a lot. Every end of any workshop, they would have sales, and her kiosk would sell out.<br> \nHer favorite art media is acrylic painting, although she draws and crafts. Her favorite subjects to draw are fishers, berry picking and the land. The artist develops her ideas while doing chores; \u201cideas pop-up at random times\u201d she says. She also confesses that she works best under pressure, having a deadline helps her work harder. In her latest projects she goes on land to find branches, fixes them how she wants them and let them dry overnight. She uses them to make frames. She also changes the form of the canvas like the shape or a drying seal skin to paint on. <br> \nJessie didn\u2019t only make art, she was also a teacher for 32 years. She was teaching Inuktitut and art classes. Because there weren\u2019t many books in her mother tongue, she made her own teaching material. \u201cIt is very relaxing to making art. I really encourage it in school, you cannot fail, you have it in yourself.
