Joanna Katrena Cooper est n\u00e9e et a grandi \u00e0 Kuujjuaq. Gradu\u00e9 de Jaanimmarik en 2016, elle a continu\u00e9 son \u00e9ducation au Coll\u00e8ge John Abbott en Art, Lettre et Communication. Aujourd\u2019hui, elle finit son baccalaur\u00e9at en cin\u00e9matographie \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Concordia.
\nEn 2020, elle cr\u00e9e Nuutuittuq, une page Instagram d\u00e9di\u00e9 au perlage. Nuutuittuq a commenc\u00e9 durant la pand\u00e9mie : \u00ab Je voulais faire quelque chose avec mes mains \u00bb. Le nom se traduit par \u2018\u00c9toile du Nord\u2019, trouv\u00e9 dans un livre intitul\u00e9 Ciel de l\u2019Arctique. Joanna explique : \u00ab en grandissant, chaque fin de semaine je sortait dans la toundra avec mon p\u00e8re et j\u2019\u00e9tais fascin\u00e9e par les \u00e9toiles et l\u2019espace \u00bb.
\nSon parcours en perlage a commenc\u00e9 avec la cr\u00e9ation de colliers tout en \u00e9tant aux \u00e9tudes. Les premi\u00e8res boucles d\u2019oreilles qu\u2019elle a fait durant la pand\u00e9mie elle les trouvait mignonne et les utilisait pour offrir des petits cadeaux \u00e0 ses amis. Sa meilleure amie l\u2019a alors convaincu de faire une page Instagram pour les partager, et c\u2019est alors que tout a d\u00e9coll\u00e9. Au d\u00e9part, elle vendait seulement dans sa communaut\u00e9, mais maintenant ses cr\u00e9ations sont vendues \u00e0 travers le Canada, aussi loin que la Colombie-Britannique.
\nLes boucles d\u2019oreilles Akuapiik sont ses premi\u00e8res pi\u00e8ces originales de Nuutuittuq, suivi de celles en forme d\u2019ulu. Ses populaire kamiik perl\u00e9es en peau de phoque sont des cr\u00e9ations relativement nouvelles, mais elle y est tr\u00e8s attach\u00e9e.
\nLa jeune artiste a \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9e au Northern Lights Trade Show \u00e0 Ottawa en 2023. Elle a ador\u00e9 cette exp\u00e9rience, ce fu pour elle un grand pas et une grande r\u00e9alisation, affirmant son int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e0 continuer. Ce juin, elle a deux pi\u00e8ces dans l\u2019exposition \u00e0 la galerie La Guilde de Montr\u00e9al, repr\u00e9sentant le Nord dans le cadre de BACA, la biennale d\u2019art contemporain autochtone. Elle va pratiquer la gravure cet \u00e9t\u00e9, une nouvelle forme d\u2019art qu\u2019il faut s\u2019attendre \u00e0 voir sur Nuutuittuq.Joanna ajoute : \u00ab Je suis tr\u00e8s chanceuse que les gens aiment mon travail! \u00bb

Joanna Katrena Cooper was born and raised in Kuujjuaq. She graduated from Jaanimmarik in 2016, and continued her post-secondary education at John Abbott College in Art Literature and Communications. Currently, she is finishing her BA in Film Studies at Concordia University.
\nIn 2020, she created Nuutuittuq, a beadwork account on Instagram. Nuutuittuq started during the pandemic: \u201cI wanted to do something with my hands\u201d. The name translates to the \u2018North Star\u2019, which she found in a book entitled The Arctic Sky. Joanna explains: \u201cgrowing up, I went out on the land with my father every weekend and I was fascinated with stars and space.\u201d
\nHer beadwork journey started with beaded necklaces, while studying in college. The first earrings she made during the pandemic she thought to be cute, and they could be used as small gifts for her friends. Her best friend convinced her to create an Instagram page to share them, and it just took off she explains. While only selling within her community initially, now her creations have reached across Canada, as far as British-Colombia.
\nAkuapiik earrings are the original staple for Nuutuittuq, then followed with ulu shaped earrings. Her famous beaded sealskin kamiik earrings are relatively new in comparison, but she expresses how fond of them she is.
\nThe young artist was invited to the Northern Lights Trade Show event in Ottawa, in 2023. She found it was a positive experience, that it was a big step and an achievement, reinforcing her will to continue. This June, she is also sharing two pieces of her work in an exhibition at La Guilde in Montreal, representing the north and being part of BACA, the Indigenous contemporary arts biennale. She\u2019ll be practicing printmaking this summer, a new medium to potentially look out for on Nuutuittuq. Joanna says: \u201c I\u2019m very fortunate that people like my
