Elisapie Lisi Qaimalik Qupanuaq, ou mieux connue sous le nom d\u2019Elisapie, pr\u00e9sente en ce moment la tourn\u00e9e Uvattini, suivant son nouvel album Inuktitut. Elle a grandi \u00e0 Salluit, encourag\u00e9e \u00e0 chanter par sa communaut\u00e9 \u00e0 un jeune \u00e2ge. Si bien qu\u2019\u00e0 chaque jour, elle allait \u00e0 la station de radio pour y chanter deux chansons. \u00ab Si je me trompais un tout petit peu, je devenais tr\u00e8s g\u00ean\u00e9e et je partais en courant en plein milieu de la chanson. \u00bb dit-elle en rigolant. Elle chantait aussi \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9glise avec sa famille des pisiit (des courtes chansons). Ces \u00e9v\u00e8nements lui ont permis de se faire entendre et de sortir de sa bulle de jeune fille g\u00ean\u00e9e. \u00ab C\u2019\u00e9tait ma seconde nature \u00bb. Elle participait aussi aux r\u00e9p\u00e9titions avec son oncle George Kakayuk, du Salluit Band. Tous ces moments n\u2019\u00e9taient pas pris au s\u00e9rieux, ce n\u2019\u00e9tait que pour le plaisir. Elisapie \u00e9tait entour\u00e9e de musique en grandissant, mais ne s\u2019imaginait pas qu\u2019elle deviendrait chanteuse, mais le reste du village, dont sa m\u00e8re, l\u2019avait vue venir. Celle-ci a toujours aim\u00e9 entendre sa fille chanter, \u00e7a lui apportait beaucoup de joie. Salluit est devenu son endroit sacr\u00e9.
Ses deux derniers albums ont \u00e9t\u00e9 grandement inspir\u00e9s par sa jeunesse, par des \u00e9v\u00e8nements personnels et des sentiments refoul\u00e9s au cours des ann\u00e9es. The Ballad Of A Runaway Girl mettait en quelque sorte en place les \u00e9l\u00e9ments qui l\u2019ont amen\u00e9e \u00e0 Inuktitut. Cette \u0153uvre lui a permis de poser les questions qui lui br\u00fblaient la langue, faire face \u00e0 sa puukuluk, sa m\u00e8re biologique, puisqu\u2019elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 adopt\u00e9e d\u00e8s sa naissance, une coutume de moins en moins pratiqu\u00e9e de nos jours. Son dernier album quant \u00e0 lui a pu voir le jour apr\u00e8s deux ans de travail acharn\u00e9. Ce qui devait \u00eatre un petit projet est devenu un long processus de choix des chansons; elle a compris que ces choix devaient \u00eatre minutieux, qu\u2019elle devait y accorder de l\u2019importance.
La pand\u00e9mie l\u2019a forc\u00e9e \u00e0 voir plus profond\u00e9ment en elle-m\u00eame, \u00e0 aller explorer la nature de ses \u00e9motions, d\u2019o\u00f9 elles viennent, comment elle les exprime. Elle a pass\u00e9 du temps dans le nord et les grands espaces l\u2019ont \u00e9norm\u00e9ment aid\u00e9. Durant le d\u00e9veloppement de l\u2019album, elle a v\u00e9cu une exp\u00e9rience spirituelle, et cela l\u2019a remplie de confiance. Elle ajoute : \u00ab Il fallait juste oser, le laid devait sortir, enlever les n\u0153uds dans les muscles, les peines ! \u00bb Au d\u00e9but de sa carri\u00e8re, elle voulait passer le plus inaper\u00e7ue possible, sans trop de confiance, ni s\u2019embarquer dans des controverses. \u00ab Je me sens d\u00e9sol\u00e9e, mais je sens que j\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 intelligente d\u2019attendre de me sentir pr\u00eate \u00bb.
Tous ces aspects font en sorte que l\u2019album est plus sombre, mais tout de m\u00eame dansant, et rejoint une vari\u00e9t\u00e9 de spectateurs. Maintenant, elle a une force qu\u2019elle assume, elle veut \u00eatre le plus vrai que possible, et vivre dans la joie. Avec tout \u00e7a elle se sent plus libre.<\/p>\n\n\n
Elisapie Lisi Qaimalik Qupanuaq, or better known as Elisapie, is currently presenting the Uvattini tour, following her new album, Inuktitut. She grew up in Salluit, encouraged to sing by her community at an early age. So much so that every day she would go to the radio station to sing two songs. “If I got even the slightest bit wrong, I’d get really embarrassed and run off in the middle of the song,” she laughs. She also sang pisiit (short songs) in church with her family. These events enabled her to make herself heard, and to get out of her shy little bubble. “It was second nature to me\u201d. She also took part in rehearsals with her uncle George Kakayuk from the Salluit Band. All these moments were not taken for granted, they were all for fun. Elisapie was surrounded by music growing up, but never imagined she would become a singer, but the rest of the village, including her mother, saw her coming. She always loved to hear her daughter sing, it brought her great joy. Salluit became her sacred place.
Her last two albums were largely inspired by his youth, personal events and feelings repressed over the years. The Ballad Of A Runaway Girl, in a way, set out the elements that led her to Inuktitut. This work enabled her to ask the questions that had been burning in her mind, and to face up to her puukuluk, her biological mother, since she was adopted at birth, a custom less and less practiced these days. As for her latest album, it took two years of hard work to bring it to fruition. What was supposed to be a small project became a long process of choosing songs; she understood that these choices had to be meticulous, that she had to give them importance.
The pandemic forced her to look deeper into herself, to explore the nature of her emotions, where they come from and how she expresses them. She spent some time up north, and the great outdoors helped her enormously. During the development of the album, she had a spiritual experience, and that filled her with confidence. She adds: “We just had to dare, the ugly had to come out, remove the knots in the muscles, the sorrows!” At the start of her career, she wanted to go as unnoticed as possible, without overconfidence or getting embroiled in controversy. “I feel sorry, but I feel I was smart to wait until I felt ready.”
All these aspects mean that the album is darker, but still dancing and reaches a variety of audiences. Now she has a strength that she assumes, she wants to be as real as possible, and live in joy. With all this, she feels freer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
