Dawn Forrest habite actuellement \u00e0 Kuujjuaq. Elle a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 en travail social au C\u00e9gep Marie-Victorin et apr\u00e8s avoir obtenu son dipl\u00f4me, elle est all\u00e9e au C\u00e9gep du Vieux-Montr\u00e9al dans le programme des arts. Elle a beaucoup d’\u00e9nergie cr\u00e9ative, d’inspiration et de motivation qui lui viennent naturellement. Lancer et poursuivre sa ligne de v\u00eatements est ce qui la motive.
Dawn a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 concevoir sa propre ligne de v\u00eatements en 2016. \u00c0 l’\u00e9poque, elle travaillait d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 la galerie Tivi \u00e0 Kuujjuaq, une entreprise familiale. Alors qu’ils pr\u00e9voyaient de s’agrandir, elle a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de travailler dans la section artistique et a tout de suite \u00e9tendu les vari\u00e9t\u00e9s d’artistes, ax\u00e9es sur le Nunavik mais aussi sur le Nunavut. C\u2019est ce qui l’a pouss\u00e9e \u00e0 cr\u00e9er Inuuvunga. Elle voulait que ses b\u00e9b\u00e9s aient des v\u00eatements autochtones\/inuit qui repr\u00e9sentent notre culture – elle a lanc\u00e9 la ligne de v\u00eatements pour b\u00e9b\u00e9s au tout d\u00e9but de sa carri\u00e8re. Des gens de diff\u00e9rentes communaut\u00e9s de tout le Nunavik se sont ensuite tourn\u00e9s vers elle pour lui demander quand elle sortirait des v\u00eatements pour adultes. Elle a r\u00e9pondu : “J’ai senti que c’\u00e9tait un besoin pour tout le monde et que je pouvais le faire, faire des v\u00eatements pour tout le monde !”
Elle a toujours voulu faire beaucoup de choses, mais cr\u00e9er et poss\u00e9der une marque de v\u00eatements \u00e9tait hors de son imagination. Apr\u00e8s avoir termin\u00e9 ses \u00e9tudes, elle s’est passionn\u00e9e pour la peinture, mais apr\u00e8s avoir eu des enfants, elle s’est rendue compte que sa principale passion prenait beaucoup d’espace et de temps. Elle croyait qu’elle serait peintre et cr\u00e9er une ligne de v\u00eatements ne lui avait jamais travers\u00e9 l’esprit. Ce n’est qu’apr\u00e8s avoir commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler \u00e0 la galerie Tivi qu’elle a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 qu’elle pouvait \u00eatre cr\u00e9ative dans le cadre de son travail. “J’aime me donner \u00e0 fond, c’est un d\u00e9fi de g\u00e9rer deux emplois, mais gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l’aide de ma famille et de mes coll\u00e8gues, j’y arrive”, explique Dawn. Elle g\u00e8re maintenant Inuuvunga, de la planche \u00e0 dessin \u00e0 la partie vente\/distribution, en obtenant en cours de route le soutien des imprimeries d’amis dans le sud, tout en g\u00e9rant la galerie Tivi, en contactant les artistes, en trouvant de nouveaux produits, etc. Son r\u00eave \u00e0 long terme serait de d\u00e9velopper la marque, de suivre les tendances de la mode et d’avoir une id\u00e9e de ce que les gens de sa communaut\u00e9 veulent, ainsi que d’impliquer ses enfants pour assurer la p\u00e9rennit\u00e9 de la marque.
Dawn vend principalement ses produits \u00e0 la galerie Tivi, mais elle a \u00e9galement une boutique en ligne sur Inuuvunga.com<\/a>, o\u00f9 des personnes du monde entier peuvent acheter ses cr\u00e9ations et les faire exp\u00e9dier depuis Kuujjuaq. Elle a vendu dans tout le Canada – dans les Territoires du Nord-Ouest, au Nunatsiavut, au Nunavik, mais surtout au Nunavut, ainsi qu\u2019en Alaska. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dawn Forrest currently resides in Kuujjuaq. She studied social working in C\u00e9gep Marie-Victorin, and after she graduated she went to C\u00e9gep du Vieux-Montr\u00e9al in the arts program. She has a lot of creative energy, inspiration and motivation that came naturally for her. Starting and continuing her clothing line is what drives her.
Dawn started designing her own line of clothes in 2016. At the time, she was already working at Tivi Gallery in Kuujjuaq, a family owned business. While they were planning to extend, she decided to work in the art section and right away expend the varieties of artists, Nunavik focused but also Nunavut. What inspired her to create Inuuvunga is that she wanted her babies to have Indigenous\/Inuit clothing that represent our culture \u2013 she started the baby clothing line at the very beginning of her career. People from different communities from all over Nunavik then came to her asking when she will release clothing for adults. She said: \u201cI felt like it was a need for everybody and that I can do it, make clothes for everyone!\u201d
She always wanted to do many things but making and owning a clothing brand was out of her imagination. After finishing her education, she was very into painting but after having children, she realised her main passion takes a lot of space and time. She used to believe she\u2019d be a painter and making a clothing line never crossed her mind, it only happened after she started working at Tivi Gallery and realised she could be creative within her job. \u201cI like giving my 100%, it is challenging to manage two jobs, but thanks to the help of my family and co-worker I can do it.\u201d says Dawn. She now manages Inuuvunga from the drawing board to the selling\/distribution part, getting support from friend\u2019s printing compagnies down south along the way, all that while managing Tivi Gallery, contact the artists, find new products, etc. Her long-term dream would be to develop the brand, follow fashion trends and get a sense of what her people want, as well as having her children involved in keeping it alive.
Dawn mainly sells her products at Tivi gallery but she also has an online store at Inuuvunga.com<\/a> where people from all over the world can purchase her creations and get them shipped out of Kuujjuaq. Her clothing has been shipped to all over Canada – Northwest Territories, Nunatsiavut, Nunavik but, mainly to Nunavut, as well as in Alaska.
