Benjamin Isaac est un sculpteur qui vient de Salluit. Il a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019adolescence, \u00e9tant inspir\u00e9 par des membres de sa famille, comme son homonyme Pauta Saila, le fr\u00e8re de sa grand-m\u00e8re, et son oncle Salomonie Pootoogook. Tr\u00e8s impressionn\u00e9 par le travail musculaire, facial, des bras et des kamiit (bottes traditionnelles) des \u0153uvres de Pootoogook, il a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper ses propres comp\u00e9tences et un style personnel. Benjamin est aussi un grand amateur du sculpteur venant d\u2019Ivujivik, Mattiusi Iyaiyuk. Il dit : \u00ab c\u2019\u00e9tait inspirant de voir leurs talents de sculpteur, je voulais voir ce que je pouvais faire. \u00bb \u00c9tant adolescent, il n\u2019y avait pas beaucoup d\u2019opportunit\u00e9s de travail, donc sculpter \u00e9tait une mani\u00e8re d\u2019acqu\u00e9rir de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience et d\u2019essayer quelque chose de nouveau. Aujourd\u2019hui, Benjamin Isaac sculpte quand il peut, cr\u00e9ant des ours polaires et des inuksuit dans son style unique, portant attention aux petits d\u00e9tails et \u00e0 la finition.
Il ajoute: \u00ab Apprendre quelque chose de nouveau, je le recommande tr\u00e8s fortement. Commencer de nouvelles choses et essayer quelque chose de nouveau. Trouver une mani\u00e8re de faire fonctionner ou voir \u00e0 quoi \u00e7a ressemble, si vous persisterez vous allez apprendre. \u00c7a prend du temps et essayez d\u2019imaginer la mani\u00e8re la plus r\u00e9aliste que possible. \u00bb Il n\u2019a jamais pens\u00e9 qu\u2019il allait gagner un concours, mais son \u0153uvre a \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9e pour le nouvel a\u00e9roport de Salluit. Plus r\u00e9cemment, le sculpteur a \u00e9t\u00e9 impliqu\u00e9, avec l\u2019artiste renomm\u00e9, Mattiusi Iyaituk, dans la construction du Qullialuk, pour le nouveau centre Isuarsivik \u00e0 Kuujjuaq. Benjamin Isaac is a carver living in Salluit. He started as a teenager inspired by the work of family members like his namesake Pauta Saila, his grand-mother\u2019s brother, and his uncle Salomonie Pootoogook. Very impressed by Pootoogook\u2019s work with muscles, faces, arms, kamiit (traditional boots), he started to develop his own skills and style. He is also a big fan of carver Mattiusi Iyaituk from Ivujivik. He says: \u201cIt was inspiring to see how good they are and how good they can work on a carving, I wanted to see what I can do.\u201d As a teenager there was not much work opportunities, so carving was a way to get new skills and try something new. He is now carving whenever he can, making polar bears and inuksuit in a personal style, putting attention to details and in the finishing touches.
He added \u201cLearn something new, I highly recommend it. To start new things and try new things. Figure out how to make it work or how it looks, if you keep trying you will learn. Take time and try to imagine how to make it as realistic as possible.\u201d He never though he would win a contest, but his work was selected for the new Salluit Airport. More recently, he was involved in the making of the Qullialuk for the upcoming new Isuarsivik Centre building in Kuujjuaq along with the renowned artist Mattiusi Iyaituk. You can also discover one of his carvings included in the exhibition Tusarnitut!<\/a> at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, a very nice and well-designed bear.
