\u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9cole secondaire, Laina Nuluki savait d\u00e9j\u00e0 qu\u2019elle \u00e9tait une artiste. Elle remportait souvent des concours de dessin, qu\u2019elle r\u00e9alisait au crayon sur papier, mais elle ne souhaitait pas en faire une carri\u00e8re. Elle s\u2019int\u00e9ressait plut\u00f4t \u00e0 des disciplines avec lesquelles elle pourrait travailler avec ses mains, sachant au fond d\u2019elle-m\u00eame qu\u2019elle serait une artiste.
En 1994, Makivik offre un atelier de joaillerie \u00e0 Inukjuak et c\u2019est \u00e0 ce moment qu\u2019elle apprend \u00e0 travailler le bronze, l\u2019argent et l\u2019ivoire. Elle prend du temps pour ma\u00eetrise les outils de joaillerie de fa\u00e7on appropri\u00e9e et s\u00e9curitaire mais elle persiste et cr\u00e9e de magnifiques pi\u00e8ces uniques. Elle trouve ses id\u00e9es en regardant le travail d\u2019autres joailliers dont elle trouve les pi\u00e8ces int\u00e9ressantes et inspirantes.
Le travail de Laina ne reste pas longtemps dans son studio une fois termin\u00e9, elle le vend sur Facebook sur des pages de \u201cBuy\/Sell\/Swap\u201d o\u00f9 il part comme des petits pains chauds. Il est aussi possible de retrouver ses pi\u00e8ces dans les municipalit\u00e9s autour du Nunavik, et dans la collection d\u2019Art du Nunavik de l\u2019Institut culturel Avataq qui poss\u00e8de aussi de ses dessins. \u00c0 l\u2019occasion, elle cr\u00e9e des bijoux d\u2019art pour des expositions, elle a d\u2019ailleurs r\u00e9cemment particip\u00e9 \u00e0 une exposition pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e \u00e0 la Maison des J\u00e9suites de Sillery \u00e0 Qu\u00e9bec.

Elle travaille pr\u00e9sentement \u00e0 l\u2019atelier de joaillerie d\u2019Inukjuak o\u00f9 elle est responsable des inventaires, des outils et de s\u2019assurer de l\u2019organisation de l\u2019espace. Elle y enseigne aussi, formant des \u00e9tudiants \u00e0 travailler le m\u00e9tal et cr\u00e9er des bijoux. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In High School, Laina Nuluki knew she was an Artist. She used to win colouring contests, mainly using pencils and paper but this ended up never picking her interest as a potential career path. Instead, she preferred creating artworks focusing more on the aspect of making something with her hands, she said \u201cI knew that being an Artist was in my heart.\u201d
\n\nMakivik gave a workshop in Inukjuak back in 1994 and in this course, she learned how to create jewelry made from several types of metal. She was first taught on how to use bronze, then silver and ivory. She used tools specifically made for jewelry making and it took her a while to learn how to use them properly and safely. She keeps creating jewelry that turn into beautiful unique pieces. She gets her motivation from seeing other jewelry makers work, finding what they do interesting and inspiring.
\n\nLaina\u2019s work does not stay in the studio for long, once it is finished, she sells her pieces on \u201cBuy\/Sell\/Swap\u201d Facebook pages and soon they are gone! Her work can be seen in municipalities around Nunavik as well as part of Nunavik Art Collection at Avataq that owns statement jewellery pieces and even drawings. She sometimes does statement pieces for exhibition, recently her work was presented at the Maison des J\u00e9suites de Sillery in Quebec City.
\n\nShe currently works in the Inukjuak jewelry studio where she does inventories, watches the tools to make sure they are all organized and well placed. She also teaches on how to work with the materials and create jewelry with new students.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
