Originaire de Kuujjuaq, Taqralik Partridge a grandi au Nunavik et au Nunavut o\u00f9 elle a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 des cours de culture \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole. Pour elle, ces cours marquent le point de d\u00e9part de son travail d\u2019artiste, m\u00eame si \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque elle n\u2019avait jamais imagin\u00e9 qu\u2019en \u00e9tant si timide elle percerait un jour comme une artiste. \u00ab Je me rappelle avoir ador\u00e9 ces classes, comme la journ\u00e9e o\u00f9 Victoria Tukkiuapik nous a enseign\u00e9 le perlage, \u00e7a m\u2019a particuli\u00e8rement marqu\u00e9e et je m\u2019en souviens encore aujourd\u2019hui \u00bb. Pour Taqralik, fabriquer est important. Elle a explor\u00e9 plusieurs disciplines telles que le chant de gorge, le \u00ab spoken word \u00bb, le perlage, l\u2019installation ou la photographie, jouant souvent sur la fine ligne entre les disciplines. \u00ab La fa\u00e7on dont je per\u00e7ois l\u2019art ou la fabrication est la m\u00eame. Peu importe que ce soit fabriquer des mitaines ou une \u0153uvre destin\u00e9e \u00e0 une exposition, \u00e7a rev\u00eat la m\u00eame importance. J\u2019applique autant cette r\u00e9flexion aux \u00ab mots \u00bb ou aux chants, tout ce qu\u2019on fabrique a une valeur. \u00bb C\u2019est pourquoi elle croit fermement en la pertinence d\u2019\u00eatre expos\u00e9 \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation d\u00e8s un jeune \u00e2ge car ceci pourrait avoir un impact important sur ce qu\u2019on devient.

Taqralik a la chance d\u2019avoir particip\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs expositions et d\u2019avoir effectu\u00e9 le travail de commissaire, ainsi que d\u2019avoir travaill\u00e9 avec d\u2019autres Inuit et artistes circumpolaires. Parmi ses artistes favoris on compte Victoria Grey, Sammy Kudluk, Mattiusi Iyaituk ainsi que plusieurs autres Nunavimmiut. Elle a aussi un int\u00e9r\u00eat tout sp\u00e9cial pour la sculpture de Salluit, y ayant pass\u00e9 une partie de son enfance et o\u00f9 plusieurs membres de sa famille y vivent. Elle croit que les jeunes artistes doivent \u00e9changer avec d\u2019autres artistes Inuit, que ce soit d\u2019Alaska ou du Groenland, il s\u2019agit d\u2019une fa\u00e7on merveilleuse de s\u2019inspirer.

Le travail de Taqralik a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 la Biennale de Sydney (Australie) en 2020, \u00e0 Londres (UK) ainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 la Galerie d\u2019art d\u2019Ontario. Sa pi\u00e8ce r\u00e9cente Pigalujaq<\/em> faisait partie de l\u2019exposition Tether <\/em>au Yukon Art Center, une exposition enti\u00e8rement commissarri\u00e9e par des autochtones. Elle est aussi l\u2019une des commissaires derri\u00e8re l\u2019exposition \u140a\u158f\u1550\u154b\u14a7\u1466 \/ Ruovttu Guvlui \/ Vers chez soi <\/em>pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e jusqu\u2019en f\u00e9vrier prochain au Centre canadien d\u2019Architecture. Elle vit \u00e0 Ottawa o\u00f9 elle est directrice du Labo Nordique, un projet de la Galerie SAW, ainsi que commissaire adjointe \u00e0 la Galerie d\u2019art de Guelph. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally from Kuujjuaq, Taqralik Partridge grew up in Nunavik and Nunavut where attended Inuit culture classes as a student. For her, this was the starting point of making art, even if at the time, as a shy kid, she had no idea she would be out in the world as an artist. \u201cI remember loving culture class, like beadwork for example we learned from the late Victoria Tukkiapik. That particular day of culture class just sticks with me forever.\u201d For Taqralik, making things is important. She has explored various disciplines such as throat singing, spoken word, installation, beadwork, and photography; examining connections between disciplines. \u201cThe way I look at art and making things, it\u2019s all the same. It doesn\u2019t matter which kind of making you are doing; making a pair of mittens or making art that will be in an exhibition has the same importance. And the same is true with \u201cwords\u201d or songs, any kind of making things has value.\u201d This is why she finds culture classes and an early exposure to creative work can have a great impact on who you become.

Taqralik feels lucky to be part of exhibitions as an artist and as a curator; and also to work with Inuit and other circumpolar artists. Some of her favorite work is by Nunavimmiut artists such as Victoria Grey, Sammy Kudluk, Mattiusi Iyaituk as well as works from across Nunavik. She also has a special interest in Salluit sculpture, where she has many relatives and spent some of her childhood. She believes that young Inuit artists connecting with other Inuit, from Alaska to Greenland, is a good way for youth to find inspiration to create.

Taqralik\u2019s work has been shown at the Biennale of Sydney (Australia) in 2020, in London (UK), at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and her recent piece Piqalujaq<\/em> is part of the exhibition Tether<\/em>, at the Yukon Art Centre, an all-indigenous curated exhibition. She is also one of the curators behind the exhibition \u140a\u158f\u1550\u154b\u14a7\u1466 \/ Ruovttu Guvlui \/ Vers chez soi <\/em>at the Canadian Centre for Architecture presented until February 2023. Taqralik lives in Ottawa where she is director of the Nordic Lab at SAW Gallery, and she also works part-time as adjunct curator for the Art Gallery of Guelph. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
