Robbie Watt est un artiste originaire de Kuujjuaq au Nunavik. Il fait du chant de gorge et diff\u00e9rents types d’arts comme des tapisseries murales.
Robbie raconte qu’il a appris ces techniques de sa m\u00e8re et de sa grand-m\u00e8re qui l’ont fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 pour \u00eatre la personne qu’il est aujourd’hui. Sa grand-m\u00e8re lui a appris \u00e0 chasser et \u00e0 pi\u00e9ger, ainsi que diverses connaissances n\u00e9cessaires lorsqu\u2019on sort dans le territoire. Il se souvient de sa m\u00e8re comme quelqu’un qui avait toujours un projet en cours, elle tannait de la fourrure par exemple. Les deux l’ont inspir\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre cr\u00e9atif et \u00e0 toujours avoir quelque chose \u00e0 faire.
Robbie a appris le chant de gorge d\u00e8s son plus jeune \u00e2ge : \u00ab Quand j’\u00e9tais petit, j’ai entendu le chant de gorge pour la premi\u00e8re fois alors que j’\u00e9tais malade. Mon grand-p\u00e8re m’avait d\u00e9pos\u00e9 au camp d\u2019une vieille dame car il fallait qu\u2019il parte pour Inukjuak, pour revenir avec de la nourriture et de l\u2019essence. Je suis rest\u00e9 avec cette vieille dame, je l’entendais faire ces sons et j’ai appris qu’elle faisait des chants de gorge. J’ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 essayer et \u00e0 m’entra\u00eener, et j’allais chanter \u00e0 la station de radio locale pour divertir la communaut\u00e9. Robbie est l’un des rares hommes \u00e0 pratiquer le chant de gorge.
Robbie aime aussi faire des tapisseries murales : \u00ab ma grand-m\u00e8re m’a toujours dit qu’il y a des moments o\u00f9 la meilleure fa\u00e7on d’\u00eatre en \u00e9quilibre est de travailler avec ses mains plut\u00f4t que de penser tout le temps. Vos mains provoqueront la gu\u00e9rison, vous occuperont; je collectionne donc les tissus depuis de nombreuses ann\u00e9es \u00e0 travers mes voyages. \u00bb Il a r\u00e9cemment r\u00e9alis\u00e9 un tapisserie intitul\u00e9e \u00ab Covid Dance \u00bb pour le projet Sanannguanitigut Makitaqatigiinniq (Tenir debout ensemble \u00e0 travers l’art)<\/a>, une exposition pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e en ligne. Ce projet d\u00e9montre un bon exemple de l’influence positive de l’art sur son bien-\u00eatre.
Le message qu\u2019il d\u00e9sire livrer aux jeunes est qu’ils sont cr\u00e9atifs puisqu’ils proviennent de gens cr\u00e9atifs, et qu’ils doivent continuer et essayer de nouvelles choses.

Robbie Watt is an artist originally from Kuujjuaq, Nunavik. He throat sings and do different type of arts like wall hanging.
Robbie shares that he has learned those skills from his mother and grandmother who shaped him to be the person he is today. His grandmother taught him how to hunt and trap, and diverse skills needed in the land. He remembers his mother as someone who always had a project on progress, she would be tanning fur for example. Both inspired him to be creative and have always something ongoing.
Robbie also learned how to throat sing at a very young age: \u201cWhen I was a boy, I first heard throat singing when I was sick. My grandpa dropped me off at the old lady\u2019s camp and he left for Inukjuak, to come back with food and gas. I got stuck with this old lady, I would hear her make these sounds, and learned she was throat signing. I started trying and practicing, and I would go to the local radio station to entertain the community.\u201d Robbie is one of the rare men who practices throat singing.
Robbie also likes to make wall hanging: \u2018\u2019I’ve always been told by granny that there are times the best way to be in balance is to work with your hands and not just think all the time. Your hands will do the healing, keep you busy, so I have been collecting fabric for many years through my travels.\u2019\u2019 He recently realised a wall hanging called \u2018Covid Dance\u2019 for the project Sanannguanitigut Makitaqatigiinniq (Standing Together Through Art)<\/a>, an online exhibition. This project was a good example on how art as a positive influence on his well being.
His message to the youth is that they are creative since they come from creative people, and to go on and try new things.
