\nCharleen Watt est une sculptrice de Kuujjuaq. Elle aime sculpter sur diff\u00e9rents types de sculptures comme la st\u00e9atite, l’ivoire, la glace ou la neige. Elle a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la Biennale Saint-Jean-Port-Joli en 2016 o\u00f9 des \u00e9quipes d’artistes inuits ont collabor\u00e9 avec des artistes non inuit et c’est \u00e0 ce moment-l\u00e0 qu’elle a appris \u00e0 sculpter sur bois. Charleen aime repr\u00e9senter les animaux dans son travail, des phoques aux ours polaires et elle aime les partager avec les autres. C’est ainsi qu’elle r\u00e9alise une sculpture de l\u2019hibou et du corbeau aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de Denys Hapell lors de la Biennale.
\nCharleen se souvient de sa premi\u00e8re sculpture : \u00ab Ma premi\u00e8re sculpture a eu lieu quand j’avais environ 9 ans et cela m’a vraiment rendue accro au travail avec des outils. Il y avait dans l’une des communaut\u00e9s o\u00f9 je regardais un a\u00een\u00e9 et il m’a demand\u00e9 si je voulais essayer alors j’ai fini par faire mon premier phoque \u00bb. Depuis, elle a suivi diff\u00e9rents types de cours pour apprendre de nouvelles choses comme la fabrication de bijoux et la gravure sur linogravure o\u00f9 elle a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 quelques estampes qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es au Mus\u00e9e d’art de Joliette dans l’exposition Revival : Gravure au Nunavik 2014-2019 (\u00e9galement disponible dans l’exposition catalogue).
\nL’un des objectifs de Charleen est de cr\u00e9er un espace \u00e0 Kuujjuaq o\u00f9 les artistes de la communaut\u00e9 pourraient travailler sur leurs cr\u00e9ations et recevoir des ateliers pour briser l’isolement de travailler s\u00e9par\u00e9ment dans leurs propres maisons. Elle suit actuellement des cours en commerce pour pouvoir concr\u00e9tiser ses r\u00eaves tout en participant \u00e0 ses cr\u00e9ations et opportunit\u00e9s \u00e0 venir.

\nCharleen Watt is a carver from Kuujjuaq. She likes to carve on different types of like soapstone, ivory, ice or snow sculptures. She has participated to the Biennale Saint-Jean-Port-Joli in 2016 where they had teams of Inuit artists collaborating with non-Inuit artists and that is when she first learned how to carve on wood. Charleen likes to represent animals in her work from seals to polar bears and she enjoys sharing them with others. This is how she made a sculpture of the owl and the raven alongside Denys Happell during the Biennale.
\nCharleen remembers her first time carving: \u2018\u2019 My first carving was when I was about 9 years old and that really got me hooked to working with tools. There was in one of the communities where I was watching an elder and he asked me if I wanted to try so I ended up making my first seal\u2019\u2019. She has since taken different type of courses to learn new things like jewelry making and linocut printmaking where she made few prints that were showcased at the Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art de Joliette in Revival: Printmaking in Nunavik 2014-2019 exhibition (also available in the exhibition catalogue).
\nOne of Charleen goals is to create a space in Kuujjuaq where artists from the community could be able to work on their creations and receive workshops to break the isolation from working separately in their own houses. She is currently taking business courses to be able to make her dreams come true while also participating in her upcoming creations and opportunities.
