\nLeevan Etok est un sculpteur de Kangiqsualujjuaq. Il a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 sculpter \u00e0 son adolescence et les premi\u00e8res \u0153uvres qu\u2019il a cr\u00e9\u00e9es \u00e9taient un morse et beluga.
\nIl utilise principalement de l\u2019andouiller et sculpte des images repr\u00e9sentant des l\u00e9gendes comme Nuliajuk, plus connue sous le nom de Sedna, ainsi que des sc\u00e8nes de la vie traditionnelle. Il a d\u00e9j\u00e0 gagn\u00e9 un concours de sculptures organis\u00e9 par la Coop de sa municipalit\u00e9.
\nDepuis maintenant trois ans, il est professeur de la classe de culture \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole de Kangisualujjuaq o\u00f9 il enseigne aux jeunes \u00e0 faire des outils et de l\u2019appareillage comme le qamutik pour la motoneige. Son but est d\u2019avoir un lieu dans sa communaut\u00e9 pour enseigner aux jeunes hommes \u00e0 sculpter : \u00ab Il y un atelier de couture pour les femmes pour qu\u2019elles fabriquent des v\u00eatements, j\u2019aimerais qu\u2019il y ait un tel endroit pour nous les hommes o\u00f9 nous pourrions cr\u00e9er \u00e9galement \u00bb. \nIl a r\u00e9cemment pris go\u00fbt \u00e0 la joaillerie apr\u00e8s avoir particip\u00e9 aux ateliers de Dora Vasquez donn\u00e9s gr\u00e2ce au soutien de la commission scolaire Kativik Ilisarniliriniq.
\nIl a abandonn\u00e9 l\u2019\u00e9cole \u00e0 son adolescence mais il a plus tard joint un programme de parcours individuel d\u2019apprentissage avec les professeurs Brian McDonald et Daniel Annanack. Il a appris \u00e0 fabriquer des outils traditionnels pour la premi\u00e8re fois et s\u2019est passionn\u00e9 pour l\u2019apprentissage de la fabrication d\u2019outils et d\u2019activit\u00e9s traditionnelles comme la chasse et l\u2019entrainement de chiens de traineaux. Ainsi, il a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la course Ivakkak dans l\u2019\u00e9quipe de Daniel Annanack en tant que passager et selon lui, cette course a \u00e9t\u00e9 la plus belle exp\u00e9rience de sa vie. \nIl est fier d\u2019avoir appris \u00e0 entrainer des chiens : \u00ab Mes chiens sont devenus forts, intelligents et rapides, m\u00eame mon p\u00e8re est all\u00e9 en camping avec eux, je l\u2019ai rendu heureux ce jour-l\u00e0 \u00bb dit-il.
\nSes futurs plans sont d\u2019obtenir un canot pour voyager \u00e0 quelques kilom\u00e8tres hors du village afin trouver de la st\u00e9atite pour la fabrication de ses prochaines sculptures.

\nLeevan Etok is a carver from Kangiqsualujjuaq. He started carving as a teenager, the first carvings he made were a walrus and a beluga.
\nHe mostly uses antler and carves imagery of legends like Nuliajuk, mostly known as Sedna, as well as scenes of traditional lifestyle. He also won a carving contest held by the Coop of his municipality.
\nFor three years now, he is the cultural class teacher in Kangiqsualujjuaq school, where he teaches young boys how to make tools and supplies like a qamutik for the skidoo. His goal is to have a place in his community where he could teach young men how to carve: \u201cWomen have a sewing studio to make clothing, so I wish there was a place for us men to gather and create as well\u201d.\nHe recently got into jewelry making after participating to the workshops given by Dora Vasquez with the support of Kativik Ilisarniliriniq.
\nHe dropped out of school in his teens but later went to IPL (Individual Path of learning) with teachers Brian McDonald and Daniel Annanack. He learned how to make traditional tools for the first time and took passion in learning Inuit tool making and traditional activities like hunting and training sled dogs. Thus, he participated in an Ivakkak dog sled race in Daniel Annanack\u2019s team as a passenger, he says that participating in the race was the best time of his life.\nHe is proud to have learned to train dogs, \u201cmy dogs got strong, smart and fast, my dad even went camping with them, I made him happy that day\u201d he says.
\nHis future plan is to afford a boat so he could go few miles outside of Kangiqsualujjuaq where there is more soapstone to create his next carvings.
