\nJulie Grenier est une artiste multidisciplinaire et \u00e9galement la directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de Taqramiut Nipingat Inc (TNI), le producteur r\u00e9gional de radio et de t\u00e9l\u00e9vision du Nunavik, ainsi que la pr\u00e9sidente de APTN (Aboriginal People\u2019s Television Network). Elle cr\u00e9e des pi\u00e8ces perl\u00e9es, travaille avec le qiviut (la laine de b\u0153uf musqu\u00e9), des os et de l’ivoire, des tissages de vannerie. Elle s\u2019est aussi r\u00e9cemment mise au touffetage de poils de caribou.
\nGr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son travail \u00e0 TNI, elle a voyag\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2018\u00e9tranger afin de r\u00e9aliser des reportages sur de nombreux \u00e9v\u00e9nements, dont les Jeux d\u2019hiver de l\u2019Arctique et le festival Riddu Riddu, et a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 un long m\u00e9trage documentaire sur Sheila Watt Cloutier. Son exp\u00e9rience \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger a \u00e9t\u00e9 une source d\u2019inspiration pour ses cr\u00e9ations : \u00ab Je d\u00e9veloppe mon travail d\u2019artiste en m\u2019inspirant du monde qui m’entoure, en d\u00e9couvrant tout ce que font les autres, les esprits cr\u00e9atifs de nos anc\u00eatres et surtout de la nature. J\u2019ai r\u00e9alis\u00e9 que tout est possible, que je ne dois pas mettre de barri\u00e8re \u00e0 ma cr\u00e9ation. Les gens sont si cr\u00e9atifs; certaines choses qu\u2019ils proposent sont tout simplement incroyables. \u00catre capable d’alimenter votre propre cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 en proposant de nouveaux concepts et de nouvelles id\u00e9es est incroyable. Et surtout, de r\u00e9aliser que tout ce que nous cr\u00e9ons contribue \u00e9galement \u00e0 alimenter la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 des autres est tellement gratifiant \u00bb dit-elle.
\nJulie a \u00e9galement collabor\u00e9 avec Beatrice Deer pour cr\u00e9er un arnauti, qui est actuellement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 \u00e0 l’exposition inaugurale INUA du Centre Qaumajuq de la Winnipeg Art Gallery, la plus grande galerie d’art inuit au monde. La cr\u00e9ation r\u00e9alis\u00e9e par le duo est un bel hommage aux arnauti traditionnels que les femmes portaient et continuent de porter aujourd’hui lors des c\u00e9r\u00e9monies. R\u00e9alis\u00e9e en peau de phoque color\u00e9e et hors de l\u2019ordinaire, la version moderne de l\u2019arnauti illustre parfaitement le style de Julie; une fusion du style traditionnel avec une touche inattendue de contemporain. Elle d\u00e9crit plusieurs de ses cr\u00e9ations comme des sculptures portables, o\u00f9 la mode et l’art se rencontrent.\nElle est reconnaissante des exp\u00e9riences qu’elle a v\u00e9cues au cours des derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es : \u00ab Une chose que je trouve triste, c\u2019est que ces occasions r\u00e9centes ne sont apparues qu\u2019apr\u00e8s mon d\u00e9m\u00e9nagement en ville. Ces occasions ne sont pas n\u00e9cessairement toujours ouvertes ou disponibles pour les personnes vivant dans les communaut\u00e9s, mais elles devraient \u00eatre accessibles \u00e0 tous. Jamais je n’aurais imagin\u00e9, par exemple, pouvoir participer \u00e0 la Biennale de la sculpture de Saint-Jean-de-Port-Joli, o\u00f9 j’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 jumel\u00e9 avec un artiste du sud pour cr\u00e9er \u0153uvre, une sculpture portable, qui \u00e9tait compl\u00e8tement au-del\u00e0 de tout ce que j’aurais m\u00eame pu imaginer faire, mais pour laquelle je suis extr\u00eamement reconnaissante \u00bb ajoute-t-elle.

\nJulie Grenier is a multidisciplinary artist who is also Director General at Taqramiut Nipingat Inc (TNI), Nunavik \u2018s regional radio and television producer, as well as chairperson at the Aboriginal People\u2019s Television Network, (APTN). She creates beaded pieces, works with qiviut which is muskox wool, bones and ivory, basket weaves, and recently started caribou tufting.
\nThrough her work at TNI, she has travelled internationally to report on the many events including the Arctic Winter Games and the Riddu Riddu festival, and she has directed a feature documentary about Sheila Watt Cloutier. Her experience has allowed her to gain worldwide inspiration for her creations. \u201cI drive and build my own creativity through the world around me, through whatever other people are doing, through our ancestors\u2019 creative minds and especially from nature. It really makes you realize that the sky is the limit. People are so creative; some of the things that people come up with are just amazing. And being able to fuel your own creativity by coming up with new concepts and ideas is amazing. And knowing that whatever we create also helps fuel other people\u2019s creativity is so rewarding\u201d she says.
\nJulie also collaborated with Beatrice Deer to create an arnauti, which is currently being showcased at the Qaumajuq Art Center\u2019s INUA inaugurating exhibit of the Winnipeg Art Gallery, which is the largest Inuit art gallery in the world. The creation made by the duo is a beautiful tribute to the traditional arnauti that women wore traditionally and continue to wear today during ceremonies. Made with coloured sealskin and out of the ordinary, the modern version of the arnauti illustrates perfectly Julie\u2019s style; a fusion of traditional mixed with an unexpected twist of contemporary. She describes many of her creations as wearable sculptures, where fashion and art meet in the middle.
\nShe feels grateful for the experiences she has been given over the last few years; \u201cOne thing I find sad is that these opportunities I\u2019ve had over the last few years came only after I moved to the city. Those opportunities are not necessarily always open or available to people living in the communities, but they should be accessible to everyone. Never would I have imagined, for example, being able to take part in the Biennale de la sculpture de Saint-Jean-de-Port-Joli, where I was paired with a southern artist to create something, a wearable sculpture, that was completely outside of anything I could have even thought of doing, but for which I am extremely grateful\u201d she says.
