\nJoey Partridge est un artiste de Kuujjuaq, au Nunavik. Reconnu pour son travail de joaillerie fine en ivoire, il est actuellement une \u00e9toile montante de la musique. Lui et son producteur Simon Walls ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 des chansons qui sont jou\u00e9es dans les stations de radios locales du Nunavik. Il a grandi en observant son p\u00e8re sculpter et, \u00e0 neuf ans, a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 sculpter \u00e0 ses c\u00f4t\u00e9s. Malgr\u00e9 qu\u2019il soit timide, Joey est tr\u00e8s curieux d\u2019apprendre de nouvelles disciplines et a toujours voulu chanter et jouer de la musique. Musicien autodidacte, l\u2019an pass\u00e9 il s\u2019est dit \u00ab peut-\u00eatre que je peux le faire \u00bb et son aventure dans un studio professionnel a commenc\u00e9. Tr\u00e8s nerveux et sous pression, il a compos\u00e9 une chanson la veille d\u2019aller au studio pour la premi\u00e8re fois. Depuis, il \u00e9crit des nouvelles chansons et d\u00e9veloppe ses habilet\u00e9s. Tout \u00e7a au m\u00eame moment o\u00f9 sa chanson a atteint le #2 aux rangs du Indigenous Music Countdown. \u00ab Les gens viennent me voir pour me dire qu\u2019ils aiment ma musique et qu\u2019ils s\u2019y sentent connect\u00e9s. Je reste souvent sans voix. \u00bb
\n\n\u00c0 travers son cheminement cr\u00e9atif, il souhaite plusieurs choses dont la gu\u00e9rison, une compr\u00e9hension de comment les Inuit se sont adapt\u00e9s rapidement aux changements de la modernit\u00e9 et tout ce qu\u2019ils font pour traverser les traumatismes v\u00e9cus. Il r\u00e9alise ses ambitions lorsqu\u2019il voit la lumi\u00e8re dans le regard des personnes, la capacit\u00e9 de se reconna\u00eetre dans les paroles de ses chansons et ceci renforce son empressement \u00e0 donner et cr\u00e9er quelque chose de positif dont son peuple a besoin. L\u2019art et la musique l\u2019ont aid\u00e9 \u00e0 se comprendre, lui ont redonn\u00e9 l\u2019estime de soi qu\u2019il avait perdu. Il trouve de l\u2019inspiration \u00e0 travers son p\u00e8re qui lui a enseign\u00e9 ses connaissances traditionnelles. Il dit : \u00ab Tant de douleur est encore pr\u00e9sente, il est difficile de s\u2019en d\u00e9tacher et les gens ont besoin de musique en inuktitut pour comprendre et se sentir mieux. \nJoey Partridge is an artist from Kuujjuaq, Nunavik. Renowned for the beautiful ivory jewelry he creates, Joey is now fast becoming known for his music. The songs he and his producer Simon Walls created are being played by local radio stations in Nunavik. Joey grew up watching his father carving. By the age of nine, he started carving alongside his father. Despite being shy, Joey is very keen to learn new disciplines and has always wanted to sing and play music. Self-taught musician, sometime last year he told himself \u201cmaybe I can do this\u201d and so his journey to booking a professional studio began. Very nervous and under pressure he ended up composing a song the night before he went in the studio for the first time. Since then, he has been writing new songs and developing his skills. All this happened while his music was becoming known and reaching #2 on the Indigenous Music Countdown. \u201cPeople come to me to tell me they love my music and feel connected to it. Often, that makes me speechless\u201d.
\n\nThrough this creative path, he wishes many things such as healing, an understanding of how Inuit have adapted quickly to changes of modernity and all they had to do to overcome the trauma they experienced. His ambition thrives from seeing light in people\u2019s eyes, the ability to recognize and relate to the words of his songs, and this reinforces his eagerness to give and create something positive that his people need. Art and music have helped him understand himself, given him back self-esteem he had lost. He finds inspiration in his father who taught him his traditional knowledge. He says: \u201cThere is so much pain that is still there, hard to get off, people need music in Inuktitut to understand and to feel better. I don\u2019t do this just for myself but for the others too.\u201d
