Artiste multidisciplinaire bispirituel\u00b7le, NIIVI consid\u00e8re la musique, la couture et la peinture comme des \u00e9l\u00e9ments essentiels de sa vie quotidienne. Iel se produit sur sc\u00e8ne depuis l\u2019\u00e2ge de 4 ans, d\u2019abord en pratiquant le chant de gorge inuit et la danse du tambour avec le groupe de jeunes de Kuujjuaq, puis en chantant sur sc\u00e8ne d\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e2ge de 6 ans. \u00c0 l’\u00e2ge de 7 ans, NIIVI a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00e9crire ses propres chansons avec l’aide de sa m\u00e8re qui notait chaque rime. NIIVI consid\u00e8re que le concert donn\u00e9 \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al en mars 2024, lors d\u2019un festival punk intitul\u00e9 Youth Attack et organis\u00e9 dans la salle pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e de l\u2019artiste, La Sotterenea, marque son v\u00e9ritable d\u00e9but de carri\u00e8re. Pour la premi\u00e8re fois, NIIVI y a chant\u00e9 avec un groupe complet, portant une robe de sa propre cr\u00e9ation.
\u00c0 travers son art, NIIVI v\u00e9hicule un message puissant et se d\u00e9finit avant tout comme un\u00b7e militant\u00b7e pour la cause inuit. Depuis 2021, iel organise la Parade de la fiert\u00e9 de Kuujjuaq aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s d\u2019une \u00e9quipe d\u2019Inuit, notamment Tobi Nassak, qui a organis\u00e9 la toute premi\u00e8re Parade de la fiert\u00e9 du Nunavik en 2020. Selon NIIVI, \u00ab il est important que la Parade de la fiert\u00e9 du Nunavik se poursuive, car les jeunes Inuit queer ont besoin d\u2019\u00eatre repr\u00e9sent\u00e9\u00b7e\u00b7s \u00bb. Toute la musique de NIIVI traite de son exp\u00e9rience d’Inuk queer et de personne biraciale. Ses textes sont r\u00e9solument politiques, ce qui a souvent valu \u00e0 NIIVI d’\u00eatre qualifi\u00e9.e d’artiste \u00ab punk \u00bb. Par exemple, le titre \u00ab No Pride in Genocide \u00bb, sorti le 1er juillet 2024, aborde l\u2019\u00e9pid\u00e9mie de suicides qui s\u00e9vit actuellement au Nunavik, qu’iel qualifie de prolongement de la tentative de g\u00e9nocide des peuples autochtones par les gouvernements.
En 2025, NIIVI a effectu\u00e9 une tourn\u00e9e \u00e0 travers l’Inuit Nunangat, se rendant notamment \u00e0 Kuujjuaq, Iqaluit et Nuuk. Iel d\u00e9crit cette exp\u00e9rience comme \u00ab un retour aux sources, une occasion de renouer avec mon peuple et de m’impr\u00e9gner de la culture inuit en parcourant diff\u00e9rents territoires inuit. J’ai ainsi pu en apprendre davantage sur ma culture et sur moi-m\u00eame, et j’ai pu rencontrer et collaborer avec d’autres artistes inuit que j’admire, comme Tarrak, Sume et Northern Haze. \u00bb
Aujourd’hui, en 2026, NIIVI confectionne tous ses costumes de sc\u00e8ne et ses produits d\u00e9riv\u00e9s \u00e0 la main, et poursuit des \u00e9tudes en arts plastiques et en sciences politiques. Iel pr\u00e9pare une nouvelle tourn\u00e9e estivale et lancera, le 31 ao\u00fbt, un premier album intitul\u00e9 NIVIARSIAK<\/em>, compos\u00e9 de titres aux paroles engag\u00e9es m\u00ealant chant de gorge, tambours traditionnels, pisirsuniq (chants anciens) et rock, en compagnie d’un groupe complet. NIIVI is a 2-Spirit Multi-disciplinary artist, making music, sewing and painting are all part of NIIVI\u2019s daily life. NIIVI started performing on stage at only 4 years old, starting with Inuit Throat singing and drum dancing with the Kuujjuaq Youth Group and started singing on stage at age 6. By 7 years old NIIVI started writing their own songs with the help of their mother who wrote down every rhyme. NIIVI cites the ‘real’ start of their career as their performance in Montreal in March of 2024 for a punk festival called Youth Attack<\/em> taking place at the artist\u2019s favourite venue La Sotterenea where NIIVI performed for the first time with a full-band wearing a dress of their own design.
NIIVI has strong messaging behind their art and titles themselves an activist for Inuit above all else. Since 2021 they\u2019ve been organizing the Kuujjuaq Pride Parade alongside a team of Inuit notably Tobi Nassak who organized the 1st ever Nunavik Pride Parade in 2020. NIIVI states \u201cIt\u2019s Important for Nunavik Pride Parade to keep going, queer Inuit youth need representation.\u201d All of NIIVI\u2019s music is about the queer, mixed-race Inuk experience, their writing is unapologetically political which has led many to title NIIVI a ‘Punk’ artist. For example, their song No Pride in Genocide<\/em> Released July 1st of 2024, is about how the ongoing suicide epidemic in Nunavik, calling it a continuation of the Governments attempted genocide of indigenous peoples.
In 2025 NIIVI went on tour across Inuit Nunangat, going to Kuujjuaq, Iqaluit and Nuuk just to name a few. They cite this experience as \u201ca reconnection to my people, being able to experience Inuit culture throughout different Inuit territories I was able to learn more about my culture and about myself and I was able to collaborate and meet other Inuit artists whom I look up to like Tarrak, Sume and Northern Haze.\u201d
Now in 2026, they handmade all of their own stage costumes and merch and is currently studying Studio Arts and Political Science in college. NIIVI is planning another Summer tour and their Debut Album titled NIVIARSIAK<\/em> with tracks filled with political lyrics, throat singing, traditional drum, Pisirsuniq (ancient songs) and a full band rock sound is releasing August 31st and we can\u2019t wait!
